Kodály Ireland presents our November Webinar - Digital Skills for Music Educators.
In this online workshop Maria O'Connor will demonstrate the use of open-source technology in a Kodály setting to enhance student engagement and self-assessment.
Maria O'Connor holds a BMus and MA from MTU Cork School of Music, is an actively performing cellist and chamber musician and has been teaching musicianship at MTU since 2019. During the pandemic, she transformed traditional in-person games into digital formats, using tools like Google Slides to maintain student engagement on Zoom. Maria continued to develop these resources for in-person and independent student use, with a particular focus on fostering aural development.
As part of the Digital Skills for Music Teachers (DISK) Erasmus+ project—alongside institutions such as the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía (Spain), Munster Technological University (Ireland), University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy (Estonia), and Grupo DEX (Spain)—Maria has furthered her research in gamification for music education.
In this webinar she will focus on strategies for aural development and self-assessment using accessible open-source technology, including the creation of digital musical escape rooms to engage students in innovative ways.
